Beatriz Lopez is a first-generation Mexican-American with family roots in Calvillo, Aguascalientes, Mexico. She was born in California and raised in Oregon. Her first experience with immigration law was her senior year in high school when she walked her mother through the naturalization process. Beatriz attended Williams College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and French Language and Literature. After college, Beatriz worked as a corporate immigration paralegal in New York City. She then pursued her legal education at the University of Houston Law Center, where she earned a Juris Doctor and Master of Laws degree in International Law. Her legal experience includes internships with the ACLU of Texas, BakerRipley, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and la Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores (Mexican Foreign Ministry) in Mexico City. While in law school, Beatriz also participated in the University of Houston Law Center’s Immigration Clinic and served as a Senior Articles Editor for the Houston Journal of International Law. She is the newest associate of Garcia & Garcia and is very excited to continue advocating for immigrants’ rights.
